Position Overview

The Technical Writer is responsible for creating technical and security documents and manuals, explain complex information in a clear and concise manner and working with staff to ensure accuracy of technical documentation. If you have previous experience as a Technical Writer in Information Technology or Information Security, we encourage you to apply. This role executes on all business imperatives in alignment with FCR’s Mission, Vision, and Values.

The IT Technical Writer reports to the VP of IT and Security.

Essential Functions and Duties

  • Plan, develop, organize, write, and edit procedures and training documents
  • Research, develop and document technical design specifications
  • Produce electronic documentation
  • Maintain a comprehensive library of technical terminology and documentation
  • Analyze documents to maintain continuity of style of content
  • Manage updates and revisions to technical literature
  • Explain scientific and technical ideas in simple language
  • Write technical direction on product announcements, marketing brochures, advertisements, marketing specifications
  • Meet with customer representatives, vendors, or publishers to establish technical specifications
  • Create user documentation including how-to guides and instruction manuals
  • Ensure technical verbiage is easy to understand by the layperson
  • Write articles and reports on current trends in fields such as science and engineering
  • Write clear and concise policies and procedures
  • Submit copies to managers for feedback
  • Adjust copy as necessary and proofread for grammar and spelling
  • Follow a life cycle called document development life cycle
  • Release the document following final approval
  • Provide updates and different editions, as necessary
  • Other duties/projects as assigned

  • Competent in using a variety of software and systems including Microsoft Office
  • Additional Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology or related field preferred
  • Proven experience working in a technical writing position
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office 365
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Able to write in explanatory and procedural styles for multiple audiences
  • Skilled at prioritization and multi-tasking

FCR Hiring Minimum Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent

  • Quiet work environment, free of background noise
  • Desk and chair or sit /stand desk meeting the individual’s ergonomic requirements including any special accommodations required
  • This position requires that you work from the address listed on your employee profile


  • A high-speed, Internet connection is required and must be available at all times IT Technical Writer
  • Phone (Smartphone, landline, cell phone) to communicate with your supervisor or IT Help desk when your computer is not available
